It’s amazing to me how often two completely different comic strips will tell basically the same joke on the same day.  It happens all the time.

Whether you live in the city or the country, whether or not you own luxury items like “running water” and “toilets”, one thing remains constant – people like to join book clubs, but don’t want to bother with actually doing any reading.

I always wondered why Beetle stuck around Camp Swampy, subjecting himself to constant beatings at the hand of his superior officer, left as a pile of cracked bones and bruised limbs.  I always pictured him snapping one day, and finishing off Sarge in one fell swoop.

It looks like he’s decided to take the high road here, and simply desert the Army without retaliating against his tormentor.  Sarge’s crack about ‘Get-Up-And-Go’ was the last straw.  He’s packed his bags, and from the looks of it, he’s decided to join Archie and the gang in Riverdale.

Beetle Bailey – 01/05/2009

January 2nd must be Captain Ahab day.  After years of going completely unmentioned in the world of comic strips, he gets two comic strips dedicated specifically to him on the same day.  He apparently survived being eaten by Moby Dick somehow, and then lived an additional 150 years.
