Recent Changes To Comic Archives

May 28, 2009
Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:40 pm

Many of you have no doubt noticed that the Houston Chronicle has cleaned out their old comics.  I am working on a solution, but it may not be implemented for a few days or even weeks.  Please keep checking back, and I’ll be sure to post when everything is back to normal.

I also hope to post more often, and discuss more comic-related things, especially good web comics, of which there are surprisingly many.

  1. Wow, I really miss the Get Fuzzy archive! Since I discovered this site, I had been having a daily lunchtime laugh reading the adventures of Bucky, Satchel, and Rob. I buy all the books as soon as they come out, but I was having a great time reading the unpublished strips while waiting for the next collection to be published. Please, please restore the archive soon!!

  4. I miss the comic archive! Thanks for the update that things at the Chronicle had changed. I’ll stop wasting my time trying to find something that has vanished!

  7. Surprisingly, it looks like many of the archives on Chron.com are back. I’m not sure what happened, but it’s definitely a good thing. I’m still looking into other methods of linking, but for now, it looks like the archive is working, at least in part.

  12. Howdy,
It looks like the COLOR strips (Funky, Fastrack, Safe Havens, etc…) are back, as far as I’ve checked…, but it looks like the B&W strips have have had their links erased. Used to be able to get 9 Chickweed back to 1998, but now it’s “Unavailable” as far into the present as I’ve checked.
    Any thoughts?

  14. I don’t know if this will help or not - but I just wanted to let you know that Comic Strip Nation has ARCHIVES for many of their strips which go back to April 1, 2009 as of September 6, 2009. They mostly have Tribune strips - such as Gasoline Alley and Brenda Starr. Unfortunately - they apparently do NOT have the SUNDAY PLUGGERS. But they have Sunday strips for most of the rest of the strips which they post.

    The link for
    COMIC STRIP NATION is as
    http://www.comicstripnation.com/

Maybe you could work something out with them.

Houston Chronicle does not post the Sunday funnies - which seems VERY odd to me. I enjoy the Sunday Popeye strips which feature Wimpy. For the most part - most of the rest of the stuff which Popeye is doing these days is such a far cry from the original that it is hard to get excited about Popeye any more.

Best to you all Keep up the good work
